With the development of economic globalization, financial English, as a language tool, has become more and more important. After China’s accession into WTO, a large number of foreign companies have entered China. Hence, the development of China in the financial field is getting increasingly international, and the persons who engage in the financial affairs in our country are asked to have the ability of speaking financial English. In order to well communicate with foreign companies in the financial field, China always places great emphasis on the undergraduate’s ability of financial English from listening, speaking, reading to writing and so on.
The universities set up the financial English courses are to develop the students’ ability of financial English who are in economic direction. The financial English is an application language. Through the financial English, the students can acquire professional knowledge. However, the financial English is not uniform as the ordinary English courses, it has its distinctive characteristic from its vocabularies, grammars, tenses and semantics, which are different from ordinary English. Take the words for instance, the words are always very complex, the meaning of the word are different between financial English and common English. For example, the word “Exchange” in common English means “the act of changing one thing for another thing”, but in financial English, the “exchange” means “a workplace for buying and selling”. Thus it is a great challenge for us students to master the financial knowledge in the financial course comfortably.
