摘　要

作为四项基本技能之一，阅读在英语学习中起着至关重要的作用。随着英语的广泛应用及英语教学的成长，对英语阅读的研究变得尤为重要。对于许多英语学习者来说，阅读不仅是英语学习的主要信息来源，它也增加了学生在英语学习中的兴趣。同时，它在英语考试中占据了很大一部分。但是，阅读能力的提高却是一项艰巨且长期的任务。英语学习者在阅读的过程中的障碍常常是由于语言能力不够、存在文化障碍、缺乏阅读策略、母语的影响等因素构成的。本文作者将在在文中讨论分析这些障碍因素并提出解决策略。

Abstract

As one of the basic skills of English learning, the improvement of English reading ability plays a significant role in many aspects of English learning. In recent years, in China, with the increasingly widespread application of English and the growing popularity of English teaching, it is urgent to study the English reading. Reading is a major source of input in English learning, and for many English learners it is a powerful way to enhance interest in English learning. Also English reading takes up a large part of scores in English examinations. However, the improvement of reading ability is a hard and long-term project. There are many barriers in English reading, such as language competence, the different culture backgrounds, the lack of reading strategies and the influence of mother language. The author will discuss the barriers in English reading and put forward countermeasures.

1 Introduction
1.1 The background of English reading in English learning
With the coming of the information age and the development of business transaction around world, the globalization of language is coming. The ability of using English has been one of the basic requirements of modern people in this international situation. As the result, English learning spreads all over the world and becomes an important part of students’ learning. As one of the four basic skills of English learning, the improvement of English reading ability plays a significant role in many aspects of English learning.
 Reading is a major source of input in English learning, and for many English learners it is a powerful way to enhance interest in English learning. In China, English learners need more to depend on reading for English learning and culture input as English learning environment can not compare with the environment in English speaking countries. And motivation is the most important thing in English learning, because it can help learners extend their general knowledge of the world.
