Abstract:
There are indications that the traditional teacher-centered instruction mode is not as effective and efficient in students’ ability improvement as it is when aided with multimedia. Application of multimedia has paved a new way for deepening teaching reform and improving teaching efficiency and quality. Multimedia-assisted English teaching, as an important trend in primary school English teaching which is characterized by student-centered and teacher-guided structure, flexibility, high efficiency and rich information, is drawing more and more attention. Based on the constructivism,the current development of the multimedia technology in teaching and the pupils’ physiological characteristics, this article discusses the application of multimedia in primary school English teaching. Meanwhile, on the basis of a large amount of teaching practices and experiences, the article points out some problems that exist in the course of multimedia-assisted English teaching and puts forward some practical suggestions.

摘  要:
有迹象表明,传统的“以教师为中心”的教学模式对于学生能力的提高已经不如从前有效。多媒体在英语教学中的应用为加深教学改革和提高教学效率、质量开辟了新道路。以学生为中心,教师为主导和课堂组织者的多媒体辅助教学凭其灵活性、高效率和丰富的信息等特点越来越受到人们的关注,逐渐成为小学英语教学的主要趋势。本文从多媒体技术的理论基础、现实发展情况以及小学生的心理和生理特点出发,分析了多媒体技术在小学英语教学中的应用。列出了多媒体技术的优势,并将理论和特点相结合分析,进一步阐述了多媒体辅助英语教学的优势。与此同时,本文根据大量分析和研究,提出了在运用多媒体技术教学过程中存在的一些弊端并给出了一些合理的建议。

1 Introduction of Multimedia
 In response to the improvement of teaching outcome and development of educational reform, modern educational technology has been employed in teaching practices, and multimedia technology will occupy a crucial position, which is found not only in the field of foreign language teaching.
Primary English learning is the first stage of English learning, so the main purpose of primary English teaching is to train students’ pronunciation, to develop students’ communicative abilities and to inspire the students’ interests. The characteristics of pupils age is that the time for concentration is relatively shorter and attention could be easily distracted. The teachers’ task is to improve the students’ motivation and to choose the suitable teaching strategy. With the development of learning theories and teaching strategies, making use of multimedia may be a better way to improve teaching efficiency.
