Abstract:

Nowadays, with the development of China, foreign exchange becomes more and more frequent. Now English has become a compulsory course in primary and middle schools, high schools and colleges. Many students have learned English for many years but they are still very poor in English and haven't improved it much. Why can't they learn English well? Is English too difficult to learn? Of course, it is not. The most difficult language to learn in the world is Chinese which we have been using in our daily life. We can use and deliver a speech in Chinese fluently, and we can also learn English well. Countless students make their effort to learn English, but their English results have not been better. This is primarily because they learn English in an ineffective way. How to learn English in an effective approach has become an important problem for many Chinese students.
The paper introduces the five basic functions of English as a language — listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. Then it analyses the effective ways of learning English from reception, discovery and some other respects. The  paper also emphasizes the importance of the learning environment and illustrates how to create the environment. Finally it draws a conclusion.

摘  要：

现如今，随着中国的发展，对外交流越来越频繁。现在英语已经成为中小学、高中以及大学里的一门必修课。很多学生已经学习了许多年的英语，然而他们中有许多人的英语水平依旧很低，没有得到显著提高。为什么有这么多学生学不好英语？是英语太难学吗？明显不是。世界上最难学的语言是我们日常生活中所用的汉语。我们可以流利地运用和讲汉语，所以我们也可以学好英语。很多学生尽他们的最大努力去学习英语，但英语成绩并未得到提高。这主要是因为他们没有用有效的方式学习英语。学习英语的有效方式已成为许多中国学生的重要问题。
本论文介绍了英语的五大基本功能——听、说、阅读、写作、翻译。然后从接受和发现学习等方面讨论学习英语的有效途径。论文还强调了环境对英语学习的重要性并讨论了如何创造较好的英语学习的环境。论文最后部分是结论。
