Abstract:
Marx once said: “Music is the second language of human being.” The History of Music also tells us: music, as a means of communication, conveys the information that people want to express. Music and language share many things in common in many aspects, such as pitch, volume, stress and rhythm, and these commonalities provide a theoretical basis for the English songs in college English learning. We can conclude that listening to English songs is really simple and effective way to learning English, because the music represents communication and culture, which creates a comfortable learning atmosphere for students.
This paper is divided into three parts. In the first part, the author starts from the English learning difficulties and finds out the reasons and the solutions. In the second part, the function of English songs will be illustrated to solve the problems of vocabulary learning. In the last part, the attentions should be paid to when one selects the specific English songs.

摘 要:
马克思曾说过:音乐是人类的第二语言。音乐的历史也告诉我们:音乐作为一种交流工具,传递这人们所要表达的信息。音乐在诸多方面和语言分享着共同点,如音调、音量、重音和节奏等,而正是这些共同点又为英文歌曲在大学英语教学中的应用提供理论依据。我们得出听英文歌曲是一种简单有效的学习方法,因为音乐代表了一种交流和一种文化,音乐为学生创造了一种舒适的新环境。
本论文可分为三个部分。第一部分,作者从英语学习的困境入手,并找出原因和解决方法。第二部分,作者指出英文歌曲对解决词汇学习困境所起的作用。最后一部分,指出在选择英文歌曲时,所需要注意的事项。

1 Introduction
Hanslick who is a Music critic once said : “all arts have the ability to influence the emotion of human, but music is more intense than any other art.” Thus it has a unique advantage when people use music to develop human emotion. When boring English class is combined with the beautiful sounds, the lesson will become colorful. Listening to English songs not only helps to improve listening and pronunciation, but also helps to improve the English comprehension and expression levels. Moreover, it is particular important for students with a strong interest in the English culture and a strong desire for knowledge. It is a fact that the proper application of songs and music can arouse students' high emotion and arouse enthusiasm for English learning. Interest is the inner strength to promote the study, and it is a powerful driving force for students learning, so it is the best teacher. Interest is a kind of psychological tendency that students want to understand and actively involve in English learning. Once students have a strong interest in English, they are willing to turn “hard study” into “happy study”, thus achieve good results.
