Abstract
At the beginning of 21st century, Hong Kong started New Senior Secondary School Curriculum Reform, based on the ideas of wholesome education, diversified development and lifelong learning, aimed at cultivating the coming generation in Hong Kong to possess a broad range of knowledge, advanced sense of flexibility, independent mind and the ability of lifelong learning. Hong Kong has gained its own characteristic and experience at the aspects of curriculum framework design and implementation strategy, and achieved remarkable grades. However, why does Hong Kong Education Development Board put forward this curriculum reform? What problems has it come across in the process? Or what has changed after reform? As the first Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong is equipped with advanced educational management and scientific curriculum, the experiences of which are worth our study. These questions have been the subject of extensive debate between the mainland and Hong Kong for nearly 10 years.
This thesis takes Hong Kong New Senior School Curriculum Reform as the main research target, content analysis as the main research analysis. It mainly focuses on the models of curriculum development in Hong Kong and its strengths, and then, put forward some suggestions for senior school English curriculum development in the mainland after the analysis of the revolution in Hong Kong and the situations of the mainland. It first summarizes reasons, difficulties and variation during the revolution in three parts, then it explains the effect from the perspective of Hong Kong new senior school English curriculum. At last, it provides some suggestions for senior school English curriculum in the mainland.
By exploring curriculum development in Hong Kong, some suggestions can be put forward for curriculum design in the mainland. Student-centered in the course, the target to cultivate life-wide learners, the important role of teachers in class, the instruction of improving comprehensive quality of senior school students are necessary for curriculum development in mainland. The thesis not only provides theoretical supports for academic research in the field of curriculum development, but also offers some practical advices of senior school curriculum development for China and also countries those are carrying out or will carry out senior school curriculum reform.
