Abstract:
Problem-based learning (PBL) is an instructional learner-centered approach that introduces learners into complicated and meaningful problem situation. In PBL, students work in groups to solve complicated real-world or authentic problems that they can not solve with their current level of knowledge. This study aims to investigate the application of PBL to English reading teaching in junior middle school. This paper clarifies the theoretical basic of PBL, analyses its research results in the last twenty years. Then based on the analysis of a specific teaching case, this paper attempts to make a summary of the advantages of PBL and reveal the efficiency and problems to the application of PBL in English reading teaching in junior middle school. In this sense, some suggestions are provided for the development of the application of PBL in English reading teaching.

摘要:
PBL教学法是把学习置于复杂而有意义的问题情境中,通过学习者之间协作式解决问题的过程来学习隐含于问题背后的科学知识,改变学生传的被动接受式的学习方式。本文试图研究 “基于问题学习法”在初中英语阅读课堂上的应用,将对PBL的理论基础、近二十年来的研究成果和优势进行综述,并通过具体的教学案例进行分析,指出PBL在国内初中英语阅读课中的实施成效及现存的问题。希望通过研究,对PBL在初中英语阅读教学中的应用的进一步发展提供有益借鉴。

1. Introduction
The Curriculum Standards of English in Junior High School In 2011 definitely points out that the new curriculum refers to students a comprehensive ability to use language as the overall objective of English courses. To achieve this goal, teaching students’ basic language knowledge and improving their four basic skills of foreign languages should be regarded as the foundational aims in junior high school English teaching.
Among the four basic skills of foreign language, reading is a basic and significant component. As a result, reading teaching plays an extremely important role in junior middle school English teaching. Reading widely will help students not only accumulate some basic knowledge of English, but also form language sense.
