Abstract: Under the condition of the more and more frequent transnational communication, obviously the English is becoming more important. As one of the most important factors influencing English learning most, the learning motivation is more and more emphasized by people. The previous researches show that the learning motivation has close relationships with the cognition, emotion and environment, and to realize and initiate the learning motivation is positive to the development of English learning effect. Thus, it is very significant to research the English learning motivation and its initiation. On the base of analyzing and sorting relevant researches before, this paper discusses the strategies of initiating the English learning motivation (especially aiming at Chinese students), and these strategies are put forward: to shift the learning attitude, to enhance the emotional encouragement, to create a relaxed learning environment, to use a variety of vivid activities, and to adopt appropriate competition. And it aims to develop Chinese students’ emphasis on motivation in English learning and their English learning effect.

摘  要:在国际交流日益频繁的大环境下,英语的重要性不言自明。作为影响英语学习最重要的因素之一,学习动机越来越被人们所重视。前人研究表明,学习动机与认知,情感和环境等因素有密切关系,而且认识和激发学习动机对提高英语学习效果也有着积极作用。因此,对英语学习动机及其激发策略的研究对英语学习具有积极意义。本文在分析整理相关研究理论的基础上,对激发英语学习动机(特别是中国学生的英语学习)的策略进行了探讨,并提出转变学习态度,加强情感鼓励,创造轻松学习氛围,运用多种多样的学习活动及采取适当的竞争等策略,以求提高中国学生对学习动机在英语学习中的重视及其英语学习效果。

With the development of the economic and cultural globalization, it is obvious that the learning of English becomes more and more important and necessary for the international communication and people’s self-improvement, and the mastery of English is gradually seen as the base of individual success in today’ society. Compared with some researches focusing on the methods of English learning, this paper is more intended to analyze the importance of the learning motivation and the strategies of initiating it, because it is proved that the learning motivation has a very close relationship with English learning, and to have a positive motivation is very helpful in improving the learning effect. Chinese students are likely to have a passive attitude toward English learning resulting from the examination-oriented education environment in our country, and they rarely think about other reasons of learning English except for passing the exams, which is not favorable to their overall mastery of English skills.
