Abstract:

This paper makes a discussion on how to improve university students’ everyday spoken English effectively in our country. The paper consists of five parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to everyday spoken English and points out the advantages which good everyday spoken English can brings to us students. The second part mainly points out that the everyday spoken English does not get enough attention in the teaching although it is very important for university students and analyzes the reasons for this situation. The third part explains the reasons why a great number of college students can’t improve their everyday spoken English well. The reasons are divided into two aspects, objective reasons and subjective reasons. The fourth part expounds how to improve university students’ everyday spoken English and gives some examples. The last part is the conclusion of the paper, which makes a summary of the importance of the daily spoken English and the ways to improve it.

论文主要探讨了如何有效提高我国大学生的日常英语口语能力。该论文共由五个部分组成。第一部分简单介绍了什么是英语日常口语以及学好英语日常口语可以带给学生什么益处。第二部分主要分析了虽然英语日常口语非常重要，但现今的大学英语教学对此不够重视的现状及其原因。第三部分分析说明了中国大部分大学生的英语日常口语能力薄弱而且难以提高的原因，这些原因可分为客观原因和主观原因两大部分。第四部分探讨了如何改善大学生英语日常口语能力的办法并举例说明。最后一部分是对论文的总结，总结了日常英语口语的重要性及其获得提高改善的路子和方法。

1  Introduction
What is the everyday spoken English? A: What do you think about fights in action films? B: I think they are terrible. They have a bad effect on teenagers. A: I see. What is your favorite kind of film? B: I like romantic films because they usually have interesting stories. This is a dialogue of everyday spoken English. Everyday spoken English not only refers to daily conversations but also refers to telephone communication, ordering, personal financial management, recreation and entertainment. English learners use it to deal with these things frequently in our daily life .This is to say English learners need to learn the everyday spoken English well if they want to communicate with others effectively. There are many advantages for us to have good everyday spoken English. First of all, as a university student, speaking English fluently can show your good learning ability more than your grades of tests, which could help us find a job. Secondly, a good command of everyday spoken English can avoid awkward on many occasions when you need to use this language. For example, when you travel abroad and have lunch in a foreign country but you don’t know how to order foods in English or communicate with the waiters, you will feel awkward and inconvenient. Last, good everyday spoken English can help us learn English better. It is well-known that there are many differences between Chinese and English because of their different traditions, history and customs. So if you learn everyday spoken English well, you will know this related knowledge. Naturally, it can help you know more about English and use English appropriately. This paper will make an analysis of the reasons for the low spoken English proficiency of the college students in China and put forward some suggestions on how to improve their everyday spoken English.
