Abstract:

Vocabulary is the basic unit of language. However, faced with so many words, many students are often confused and overwhelmed by the amount of words to memorize them. They fall into the vicious circle of reciting and forgetting, not to mention of putting them into actual application, thus, their interest in learning English fades gradually. In recent years, with the wide use of the Internet and the development of subtitle technology, watching original movies with bilingual subtitles is commonly available to average people. Many domestic scholars find that bilingual subtitle movies are not only appealing to the eye, but also can facilitate vocabulary learning. However, people are under the impression that learning vocabulary through movie watching is time-consuming and inefficient. Therefore, this paper is intended to explore how to inquire vocabulary more efficiently through watching bilingual subtitle movies, under the guidance of Krashen’s input hypothesis and based on small self-compiled corpus of original subtitle movies. This paper can be divided into four parts. Part one is a general introduction of  current situation of the study. The second part is a literature review about relevant theory and concept. The third part is the body part, which mainly introduces the methodology and analysis of the data collected. The last part is the conclusion of the paper, at the same time, it also mentions the shortcomings of the paper.

摘要：

词汇是语言的基础。但是，许多英语学习者面对满书的词汇经常不知所措、束手无策，或识记后迅速遗忘，更不用说实际应用了，进而丧失了学习英语的兴趣。近年来随着互联网的广泛应用和字幕技术的发展，观看双语字幕原声影视剧已不再是一件遥不可及的事情。国内很多学者发现，双语字幕影视作品不仅集观赏性，娱乐性和艺术性于一身，而且也能促进英语学习者的词汇附带习得。 但人们普遍认为通过观看电影来习得词汇虽然寓教于乐，但费时低效。因此，本课题主要在Krashen输入假说的指导下，在自建小型原声影视剧作品语料库的基础上，探讨如何最有效地通过观看双语字幕原声影视作品来附带习得词汇。因此此研究具有很强的理论和现实意义。论文主要分为四个部分，第一部分是对目前相关研究的总体介绍；第二部分主要回顾了相关的理论和概念；第三部分是研究的重点，主要介绍了研究的方法和分析过程；第四部分是论文的总结部分，同时也提出了论文的不足之处。

 Introduction 
English is not only an international language but also the most widely used language in the 21 century. Whether you are an English major, a liberal art major or a science major, learning English well is a necessary part in your life. As is said by famous linguist D.A.Wilkins “Without grammar very little can be conveyed; Without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed”, people can see the importance of vocabulary to language learning. Therefore, in order to master a language well, it is necessary for language learners to learn vocabulary well, which is obvious to everyone.
