Abstract
This paper endeavors to analyze the cultural imperialism in English textbooks and its ideological impacts on university students. It attempts to justify three research hypothesis: 1) There does exists the phenomenon of cultural imperialism in university English textbooks; 2) The thoughts, beliefs and values of college students are influenced by it to a certain degree; 3) University students do not passively follow the information of cultural imperialism in the English textbooks, instead, to some degree they can encode the information according to their own understanding, knowledge and experiences. Starting from the theory of cultural imperialism, this thesis analyze the information of western and undeveloped countries in the university English textbooks. Then in order to know whether university students’ values, thoughts and beliefs have influenced by the phenomenon of cultural imperialism in university English textbooks, this thesis conducts a survey toward university students. As there is limited empirical research on cultural imperialism and the research connecting cultural imperialism with education, this study carves out a new way in these aspects.

   本文分析了英语教材中的文化帝国主义现象及其对大学生思想的影响,试图证明三个研究假设: 1)英语教材中确实存在文化帝国主义现象; 2)英语教材中的文化帝国主义现象对大学生的思想造成了一定的影响; 3)大学生并不是完全被动的接受英语教材中关于文化帝国主义的信息，而是在一定程度上能依据自己的理解、知识和经历能动地解码。本文从文化帝国主义理论出发，深入分析了英语教材中的关于西方国家和不发达国家的信息，继而对大学生做了问卷调查以了解其思想是否收到了英语教材中文化帝国主义现象的影响。由于目前对文化帝国主义现象的实证性研究仍很有限，将文化帝国主义现象与教育联系起来的研究更是很少，本文在这些方面提供了新的视角。

1 Introduction
After the end of the Cold War, the developed countries’ dominance over the undeveloped countries has changed from military invasion and economic sanction to cultural control. In such backgrounds, some researchers devote themselves to the issue of cultural imperialism. As the expansion of the English language around the world and the frequent intercultural communication, western culture and ideology overwhelms the world, invading the undeveloped countries with its unequalled advantages, in the meantime, exerting a subtle influence on the local people’s life attitudes, beliefs and values, this is termed as the “cultural imperialism”.
