摘要

随着现代教育的不断进步与发展,英语作为第二语言的地位越来越突出情感因素在英语学习与教学中的影响也日益受到关注。本论文在阐明一些情感因素如动机,态度,自尊,焦虑在第二语言习得与教学的同时,提出了一些相对应情感的教学方法,换而言之,就是激发好的情感因素,驱散或消除不良的情感,从而提高教学质量。

Abstract

With the development of modern teaching methodologies, English as our second language is playing an increasingly significant role, and at the meantime the influence of emotional factors on English learning and teaching is becoming more notable. This thesis, while clarifying the role of some emotional factors, like motivation, attitude, self-esteem and anxiety, puts forth some corresponding methods to deal with the emotion, in other words, to excite the positive emotion, disperse or eliminate adverse emotional factors, so as to improve the teaching quality.

1. Introduction
1.1. The Background
With the development of social science and culture knowledge, English as our second language is playing an increasingly important role. In the past English teaching, the rationality of brain and the function of cognition have been highlighted while the development of irrationality has been neglected for so many years, resulting in the emotional illiteracy. Traditional English teaching emphasizes knowledge and ignores emotional factors. Time spent on words and text interpretation is longer than time allocated for students to practice speaking. Although many teachers have realized the importance of the students’ participation in classroom activities, actually they adopted the traditional teaching mode that takes teachers as the center, grasps content as the purpose. People’s cognitive activities are always accompanied by emotional factors, when emotions are repressed or even killed, people's creative potential will not be able to get development and implementation. Traditional education, however, the one-sided emphasis on knowledge and intelligence, neglecting the emotional factors related to learning activities and creative potential development, resulting in the separation of cognition and emotion.
Second language acquisition--a cognitive process, many factors are involved in this process. Apart from learning objective factors, subjective factors, namely, related to learners’ quality like cognitive factors, emotional factors and aging factors are of vital importance. And the soar of humanism psychology attaches more attention on emotional factors in second language acquisition.
