摘　要

委婉语是人类语言中所使用的一种语用策略，同时也是一种特殊的语言形式是为了能让人们在社交过程中能更好地实现交际效果。在人际交往中，尤其是商务交往中的作用不可忽视。商务人士可以借助委婉语含蓄、礼貌、间接地表达自己的不同意见和愿望，并提出要求，营造一种平等友好的商务环境。它就像一种催化剂，让合作的双方产生良好的化学反应，最终达到双赢。本文将从委婉语和语用功能的定义出发，通过阐述什么是委婉语，由其概念入手，探讨委婉语的作用以及语用功能的特点。主要研究商务谈判和外贸函电中委婉语和语用功能这两个方面的使用。 结合国际商务沟通实例介绍委婉语在商务英语中的特殊语言结构和表现手法，对委婉语在商务沟通中的语用功能进行了阐述。这也能为商务人士吸引客户，抓住商机，开拓市场提供了一些有有用的借鉴和参考。

Abstract

Euphemism is used in human language as a kind of pragmatic strategy. It is a kind of language form for people to achieve better communicative effect in the social process. It is a special language form, a language strategy and communication means, whose role can not be ignored in interpersonal, especially in business communication. Business people can express their own different opinions and wishes implicitly, gently, and indirectly by euphemism, and puts forward some requirements, to build friendly and mutual consultation business environment. Euphemism is just like a catalyst, making both sides get a good chemical reaction and achieve win-win finally. This paper will talk about the definition of euphemism and pragmatic function, stating definition of euphemism, effect of euphemism and features of pragmatic function. Key points are business negotiation and business correspondence. Through a large number of relevant literature collection work and specific examples of business, we expound the pragmatic function of euphemism in business communication. Meanwhile the author will discuss its special language structure, technique expression in business communication and the vital function of euphemism. It also provides some useful references for businessman to attract more customers, seize better opportunity, and develops bigger market.

1 Introduction
    This paper studies the use of euphemisms in Business English from Pragmatic Principles. Along with China’s entrance to the WTO, the economy has boosted. As the development of the economy, various business activities spring out. So the trade between china and foreign countries is becoming increasingly frequent. It can also call business communication. There are many factors for the successful business communication, such as management, marketing competitiveness, creativity etc. Thus, the function of euphemism in the business communication can not be ignored. Euphemism is a very part of language and used mainly to coordinate the social relations. Euphemism is an important research objective of language. From the essence of language, different languages always have common characteristics and significance. Euphemism as a common language phenomenon, no matter in English, Chinese, or in any other language, from the moment it appeared, plays an important role in the human society and human’s language. Pragmatics is a relatively new subject in linguistics. It deals with how utterances have meanings in situations. Studying pragmatics is very important because it enables us to understand what the nature of language itself is and how language is used in communication.
