摘 要
随着人类社会的进步与发展,动物词汇在语言中的应用越来越广,民族历史文化是影响动物词汇应用于生活的重要因素。在当下,文化推动了动物词汇的广泛应用,而动物词汇的广泛应用又折射出一个民族的历史文化背景。本论文主要研究了东西方动物词在语言文化中的寓意异同情况。论文研究了狗,天鹅,猫头鹰等动物在英汉语中的不同用法和语义。本文主要就五方面研究了动物词汇在英汉语中的意象使用。动物比做人,动物比作物,动物比作事或现象,动物比作一些特征,动物比作动作。而后,综合分析比较了中西方动物词汇寓意的相同之处和不同之处。并经过研究发现,英汉语中动物词汇寓意基本是大同小异的状态。本论文将例举一些普遍的例子来分析它们这些意象的异同之处。

Abstract
With the developing of human society, the animal words be used in language become more and more widely, and the national historic culture is a important factor that makes the animal words be applied to our life. At present, culture promotes the animal words be applied to life widely, and the application of animal words refects the background national culture. This thesis mainly studies on the similarities and differences in the connotations of animal words in English and Chinese. The paper looks into the dog, swan, owls and other animals, and analyzes their different usages and semantics between English and Chinese language. This research is mainly made up of five parts: animals compared to human, animals compared to object, animals compared to situation, animals compared to characteristic, animals compared to behaviors. Then, there is a comprehensive analysis and comparison of their similar and different connotations between Chinese and English. After doing the research, we find out that the connotations of some animals are basically the same both in English and Chinese. But, there are many animals whose connotations are different in Chinese and English.This paper will list some common examples to analyze their different and similar connotations.

1. Introduction
The word "Animal" is a most common word to us. In our daily life, we can see all kinds of animals in the streets, such as dogs, cats, cows, mice, pigs, snakes, etc. In our general thinking, the definition of “Animal” is just as the Dictionary puts : "An animal is a living creature such as a dog, lion, or rabbit, rather than a bird, fish, insect, or human being.
