摘　要
   
    现代的澳大利亚，与中国大陆相似，由英国探险家杰姆斯Cook船长在1788发现。澳大利亚被认为是一个文明相对较新的国家，尽管土著（原住民）拥有在地球上现存最古老的文化。原住民，真正的澳大利亚土著居民，据知40000多年前就居住于澳大利亚。现代澳大利亚有大约23000000人，主要包含在沿海城市的主要城市如悉尼，墨尔本，珀斯和布里斯班。
    澳大利亚人往往是群居的，思想积极和外向的。大多数是在相对宽松的社会与他们的熟人和同事相处。澳大利亚人坚信同伴间的友谊和公平竞争，并且对处于劣势者以及与逆境抗争的人们有着强烈的同情。澳大利亚人，像世界各地的人一样，不能轻易定型。典型的澳大利亚随处可见，这些澳大利亚人更可通过一种感觉或一个无忧无虑的文化态度而识别。这种感觉和定义的是一个“真正的澳大利亚人”结合现代社会的大熔炉建立在移民基础和希望上。然而，这些人都是不相同的。他们当然不会看起来都一样！多样性是澳大利亚人民的核心。
    我们的任务是要知道什么是现代澳大利亚唯一代表；寻找、探索和分析是什么形成了澳大利亚人多样性性格，最终从澳大利亚背景、文化、地理三个方面总结归纳出澳大利亚人性格。

Abstract

    Modern Australia, the island continent with a similar landmass to China, is a country claimed to have been “discovered” by English explorer Captain James Cook in 1788. Australia is considered a relatively new civilized nation despite its indigenous people (aboriginals) being amongst the oldest surviving cultures on the planet.  Aboriginals, the true Australian natives, are said to have inhabited Australia more than 40,000 years ago. Modern Australia is home to around 23 million people, largely contained in coastal urban major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
     Australians, like people everywhere, cannot be so easily stereotyped. There are ‘typical' Australians everywhere but these Australians are more identifiable with a feeling or a carefree cultural attitude rather than physical attributes.  That feeling and definition of being a “true Aussie” binds the melting pot of its modern society build on a foundation of immigration and hope. However, these people are not all the same. They certainly do not all look the same! Diversity lies at the core of Australian people.
A roll call in a typical metro city primary school, high school or University is likely to typically read out surnames such as Papadopolous (Greece), Li (China), Ballotelli (Italy), Lun Lan (Vietnam), Atmadja (Indonesia), Kim (Korea), Smith (England), Tomic (Croatia) and McConnell (Ireland). The sea of multicultural first and second generation ethnic faces looking like a United Colors of Benneton advert – with their family history often traced to seeking opportunity in the “lucky country” after fleeing poverty, unemployment or other types adversity in their native land.
    Our task is to know what being a modern Australian uniquely represents; to seek, find and explore what has shaped its people and dissect the Open Spaces of the Australian collective mind.
