Abstract:
This paper has mainly analyzed the changes of American women’s status. And these changes of women’s status in the USA have been discussed from four aspects: 1 American women’s status in today’s modern society. 2 The reasons that lead to the changes of American women’s status. 3 Some inequalities for American women remain in today’s modern society. 4 Measures should be taken to improve American women’s status today. In the first aspect, the improvement of American women’s educational, political and economic status has been presented. What’s more, the problems which still exist in these fields have also been discussed. In the second aspect, the author has offered two reasons that lead to the changes of women’s status in the USA including the self-awareness of women themselves and the promotion of women’s movement. However, although American women’s status has been improved greatly, there still remain many inequalities for women comparing with men. So in the third aspect, the inequalities for American women have been presented including inequalities in occupational field and the violence concerning women. Finally, measures which can improve American women’s status have been discussed. The author has also provided various measures from different aspects. First, women themselves should be confident and realize that they are born equal with men. Second, the government should encourage everyone to take part in the promotion of gender equality. Besides, social institutions should be organized to help women to get their own rights.

摘要：
本文主要分析美国女性地位的变化。文章从四个方面讨论女性地位的变化：1 当今美国女性的地位。2 美国女性地位变化的原因。3当今的美国社会，在对待女性方面还存在哪些不平等。4 怎样提高女性地位。第一方面主要论述美国女性的教育、政治、经济地位的提高。但是在这些领域中依然存在着许多问题。第二方面本文主要论述了美国女性地位变化的原因。美国女性地位的提高主要是因为自我意识的觉醒以及妇女运动的推动。尽管女性地位有了较大提高，但是与男性相比还存在许多不平等。所以第三方面作者主要陈述了现在女性的不平等待遇，包括就业方面的不平等待遇以及遭遇的暴力。最后本文从不同角度讨论了提高女性地位的方法。首先，女性自身应充满自信，而且应意识到男女天生是平等的。第二，政府应鼓励所有人参与到提高女性地位的活动中来。另外，应成立各种社会组织来帮助女性争取自身权益。

1 Introduction
From 1848 till now, the American women are struggling to change their social status. They try to get rid of their status of being subsidiary of men. They demand to accept better and higher education and to be independent economically. What’s more, they begin to take part in social work. For example, more and more women in the USA begin to participate in politics. They want to get the right to vote and the right to be voted. In colonial times, they were just belongings to their husband. Their values lied in giving birth to children and taking care of the family. But now women in the United States demand to achieve their social value and their goal of life. They try to get the same right as men have. They want to show that they are also a very important part of the American society. So they struggle to improve their status.
