Abstract：
Ambiguity is one of the basic properties of human language. The ambiguity and pragmatic function of business language in real business communication is very important. More and more people have recognized the importance of fuzzy language in business English with the economic globalization and frequent international trade. This paper introduces fuzzy language in business English and its necessity, and discusses its pragmatic functions such as objectivity, flexibility, efficiency, etc. It uses some examples of business English to analyze these pragmatic functions. Besides, the paper does research on the pragmatic strategies. The pragmatic strategies have three parts: Firstly, we should use fuzzy expression deliberately in order to protect the reader's self-consciousness. Secondly, we need to use the passive voice. Thirdly, we need to leave room for business negotiations. At last, the author draws a conclusion about the above study. The pragmatic perspective of this paper will help people make more use of the positive side of fuzzy language, avoid the negative side and achieve better results for business communication. Correct, proper, legitimate use of fuzzy language allows words to be expressed more courteously and objectively and can enhance the flexibility of business operations and the strengthening of self-protection. It can be applied in the teaching of business English, and teachers can guide students to analyze and use fuzzy language in order to help them express correctly.

摘  要：
模糊性是人类语言的基本属性之一，商务英语的模糊性及其语用功能在实际商务交际中非常重要。本文介绍了在商务英语中的模糊语言及其必要性。随着经济全球化，国际贸易的频繁，模糊语在商务英语中的重要性越来越为人们所认识。文章讨论了模糊语在商务英语中的语用功能，如客观性、灵活性、效率性等。文章还运用大量的商务英语的例子来分析这些语用功能。另外，本文还对其语用策略进行了一番阐述。语用策略分为三部分，其一，谨慎的模糊表达，以保护读者的自我意识；其二，不明确表态，尽量用被动语态来表达；其三，给谈判留有回旋余地。本文的语用研究将帮助我们更多地利用模糊语言积极的一面，避免消极的一面，实现商务交流更好的结果。正确，恰当，合法使用模糊语言可以使语言表达得更礼貌和客观，能提高业务的灵活性和加强自我保护。它可以应用于商务英语教学，教师可以引导学生分析和使用模糊语言以帮助他们准确表达自己。

1 Introduction
The basic principles of traditional linguistics require people to give clear and correct expression of language. But because of ambiguous boundaries between objective entities, it is difficult for them to do so，which inevitably leads to fuzziness in language use. Under specific circumstances, people have to make language ambiguous when they want to express vaguely or simply do not need to determine precise manners and clear boundaries. Ambiguity can make the expression more subtle, the coverage larger, and the flexibility stronger. This is mainly achieved through fuzziness. In some cases, fuzzy language is not obtrusive but decent. This paper describes the phenomenon of fuzzy language in business English and discusses its functions and strategies from the perspective of pragmatics.
