摘要

称赞语是一种礼貌的言语交际行为，是人们在语言交往中用来赞美对方的话语。它是交际的“润滑剂”，使交际得以在和谐融洽的气氛中向前推进。它具有不同程度地消除交际者彼此交往的心理障碍，拉近交际者之间的社会距离，创造或维系融洽的人际关系等多种社会功能，在人们的社会交往中占有重要地位。因此，作为社会语言学主要研究对象之一，称赞语受到了广泛关注。近年来，随着跨文化交流的加深，称赞语在跨文化交际上的使用也凸显频繁。但由于文化上的差异，称赞语的应用往往因为对语言的误解而进入答非所问的尴尬局面。本文在简单介绍称赞语的定义、对象、和常用句型后，以英汉称赞语的应答模式案例为线索，探究英汉称赞语及其应答模式的区别，及避免错误使用英汉称赞语的对策。

Abstract

Compliment, as a polite verbal behavior, is used to praise each other during the conversations. It is the “lubricant” of communication, which promotes the conversations in a harmonious atmosphere. It declines psychological block of speakers to a certain extent, shortens each other’s social distance, and creates or maintains interpersonal relationship and so on. It definitely plays an important role in social contacts. Hence, as one of the major study target of sociolinguistics, compliment becomes widely concerned. In recent years, with the intensification of cross-cultural communication, it has been more and more frequent to use compliment in cross-culture communication. However, because of differences of culture, the application of compliment often enters into embarrassing conditions that give rise to irrelevant answers. After a brief introduction of the definition, the target and the useful sentence patterns, as well as the cases of English and Chinese answer modes, this paper is to reveal the differences in English and Chinese compliments and their answer modes and to find out ways to avoid improper use of compliment.
