摘要
蒂姆·波顿,美国著名导演,他独特的电影拍摄视角及其伟大的艺术成就使他成为当代美国电影界最具影响力的导演之一。他的电影虽然主题不同,但是拍摄的手法和风格大多都相类似,那就是哥特式风格。通过他的电影,我们可以看到很多传统哥特电影的元素,比如杀戮、复仇、黑暗等。此外他对哥特传统的发展使得我们还可以看到一些以往的哥特电影中看不到的元素。蒂姆·波顿将古老的哥特传统与当代的时代背景完美结合在一起,给哥特文化注入了新的活力。本文试图通过研究蒂姆·波顿的代表作《剪刀手爱德华》来探讨他对哥特传统的继承与发展及其现实意义。本文的研究结果将为哥特文化的研究补充一些内容。

Abstract
Tim Burton, An American film director, is one of the most famous directors of contemporary American film industry attributing to his unique perspective of making films and great artistic achievements. In general his films revolve around the similar style of Gothic despite of different themes. We can see that there are a lot of traditional Gothic elements through watching his films, such as massacre, revenge, darkness. In addition, we can also see a great number of elements that had never seen before. Tim Burton made a perfect combination between the traditional Gothic culture and the era of contemporary background, injecting new vitality into the Gothic genre. This thesis intends to study Burton’s inheritance and development of Gothic tradition based on one of his representative films——Edward Scissorhands,so as to explore its practical significance. The result of this thesis will be a supplement to the study of Gothic culture.
