Abstract

    Clothing is one of the most contents of the important main culture and can be used as an important tool for studying popular culture and social history. The history of human costume, to some extent, is the development history of sensible human culture. Clothing is used to indicate rank or status through the materials used and the cut of a garment. Clothing reflects cultural historical differences and social customs that have changed over time. Clothing reflects behavior standards, manners and the culture itself. Clothes provide examples of America's and Chinese shifting economy and changing production techniques. In this paper, we will try to understand the differences of Sino-US cultures between China and America by comparing the style, material and color characteristics of clothing.

摘 要

     服饰是一个国家和民族文化的重要内容之一，是研究流行文化和社会历史的重要工具。人类服饰的变化史在某种程度上可以看成是人类文明的发展史。从它们的材料和剪裁技术可以看出服饰所有者的身份差异和社会等级。服饰反映了文化的历史变迁和社会风俗的改变；反映了社会的行为标准、生活方式和精神文明。从服饰可以看出中美经济差异和生产工艺的不同特点。本文将从中美两国服饰的款式、材料和色彩特点进行比较来分析和解读中美文化的诸多差异。

1.Introduction
  Every country has its own language and culture. For individuals, the costume is a kind of language that can cultivate aesthetic sentiments; For a country or nation, the costume is a kind of culture that can reflect the cultural accomplishment, mental attitude and the level of material civilization. (Huang, 72). With the development of the communications among persons and countries, costume plays a more and more important role in the communications of different cultures. Different countries have different kinds of clothing which represent different social culture. (Huang，25)China is an ancient civilized country with long history, while America is a developed country with sophisticated culture. The differences between these countries' clothing can reflect the differences of value, thinking method and culture. This paper will try to compare the style, material and color characteristics of the costume between China and America to understand the differences of Sino-US cultures.
