Abstract
Racism is a kind of self-centered attitude. It believes the racial differences determine the development of human society’s history and culture. It is a kind of belief, believe that race is the decisive element to decide human’s features and ability, and racial differences cause that one particular ethnic group inherit their privileged position, according to this belief, racism creates racial prejudice. Hollywood, as the world’s best film-making manufacture and output place, regards its movies as the main culture industry, has implemented continuous external expansion, its thoughts implication always influence the world in an unconscious way. And movie itself could be regarded as the best device for ideological state apparatus, an effective device which can copy and reproduce ideology, political color in it speaks for itself. White Supremacy has been a deep-rooted concept in European and American culture. It causes a number of racial contents in Hollywood movies.
This thesis employs racial discrimination theory as theoretical foundation and mainly focuses on the racial discrimination in Hollywood films. It adopts content analysis and case study as research methods. It first gives a brief introduction of the back ground of racial discrimination in America, then it explains the previous and present condition of racial discrimination in Hollywood movies from the perspective of black people’s special treat, with several film works, provides a real expression of racial discrimination in Hollywood films. At last, it highlighted the improvement and positive signals were released combined with some Hollywood movies.
The result of this thesis will be a supplement to the literature on international racism analysis and be able to provide some reference for the development and advance of Chinese film enterprise which has entered international market.
