Abstract
Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by the British author J. K. Rowling. The books chronicle the adventures of a wizard, Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for seven years. Till June 2011, the book series has sold about 450 million copies, making it the best-selling books series in history and has been translated into 67 languages. The books, with the seventh book split into two parts, have been made into an eight-part film series by Warner Bros. Pictures, the highest-grossing film series of all time. The total box office is about $ 7.6 billion.
Harry Potter has gain the attention of the entire world, and loved by countless readers. That makes people feel shocked and curious. So, what kind of magic does Harry Potter series have, charmed countless readers in this world of diversity?
In this paper, I try to analyse reasons for the success of Harry Potter on the basis of the views of Chinese and Western scholars, from imagination of the works, the plot set, the audience psychology and other ways.

英国作家J•K•罗琳的系列小说《哈利•波特》一共七集,描写了主人公哈利•波特在霍格沃茨魔法学校七年学习生活中的冒险故事。该系列已被翻译成67种语言,所有版本的总销售量超过4.5亿本(2011),名列世界上最畅销小说之列。美国华纳兄弟电影公司把这七集小说改拍成八部电影,前六集各一部,而第七集分成两部。哈利•波特电影系列已成为全球史上最卖座的电影系列,总票房收入为七十六亿美元。哈利波特取得了世人瞩目的成功,深受众多读者的喜爱。震惊、好奇之余更多的是思考和置问,《哈利•波特》系列究竟有着怎样的魔力,让无数读者为之倾倒,并在价值多元化的全世界产生了共鸣。
本篇论文在结合中西方学者们观点的基础上,从作品的想象力,情节设置,消费时代的受众心理等方面进行分析,尝试得出其成功的原因。
