Abstract:
Body language is a reflect of culture. This study describes the characteristics of body language and how people communicate with body language. This study discusses the differences in body languages of different cultures. Based on the notion of cultural value orientation theory, the paper tries to explain why these differences emerge. For a better understanding and avoiding misunderstanding, it analyzes the exclusive body languages and taboos derived from the unique body language in different cultures. Finally, the paper calls for a proper application of body languages in intercultural communication. The author will also consider the influences of body language on intercultural communication.

摘要:
身体语言是文化的一种折射。该论文阐述了身体语言的特点以及人们如何应用身体语言。探究了由于文化的不同,身体语言产生的差异性。结合文化价值导向理论,探究了由于文化的不同,身体语言产生差异的原因。具体的分析了不同文化所特有的身体语言以及禁忌,如何将适当的身体语言应用于实际跨文化交流之中,以及身体语言给文化交流带来的影响。

1. Introduction of Body Language
1.1 Concept and Scope of Body Language
When we communicate with other people, we make ourselves understood not only by words. Words are just one part of communication. We send messages to other people also by our body movements. Body language is also an integral part of communication. In the past, although films were silent, audience can still understand the meanings films conveyed through actors’ body movements. “Body language is also called nonverbal communication.” It’s the way people or other animals use to communicate. E.T.Hall indicated that “nonverbal communication is the important part of intercultural communication. Most of the people don’t realize this silent language, though they exert then every day” .
