Abstract:

In recent years, American sitcoms have caught attention of worldwide viewers. With a series of distinct personalities, humorous language, and comprehensive scientific knowledge, American sitcom The Big Bang Theory enjoys great popularity both at home and abroad. Many Chinese audiences, especially the young, have become its die-hard fans. Science genius Sheldon also becomes the most beloved character and brings a lot of fun to us. Besides his hilarious acting, the success of this characterization mostly comes from his unique language features. His unusual choice of words and sentences often make people laugh, which, at the same time, also reveals his complex personality. This paper tries to analyze Sheldon’s language style and his character from the perspective of stylistics, that is, from phonological, lexical, syntactical and rhetorical device levels, using The Big Bang Theory lines as data source. It is hoped that through the study and analysis of this paper, readers will have a better understanding of Sheldon’s linguistic features and his character; learn scientific and cultural knowledge and improve their English. Meanwhile, it will help us appreciate humor in American sitcoms.

摘  要：

近年来美国情景喜剧吸引了全世界的观众，《生活大爆炸》因其个性鲜明的角色，幽默的语言，包罗万象的科学知识在国内外大受欢迎。许多中国观众尤其是年轻人都成了它的忠实粉丝。科学天才谢尔顿也因其搞笑的表演成为最受欢迎的角色，给大家带来了无数欢乐。这个角色的成功主要在于其独特的语言特色，他不同寻常的遣词造句让观众捧腹大笑，同时也反映了其复杂的人物性格。本论文以《生活大爆炸》台词作为数据来源，试着从文体学角度分析谢尔顿的语言特色及性格特点，包括语音，词汇，句法和修辞等方面。通过研究分析，读者能更好地理解谢尔顿这个人物的语言特色和性格，学习许多科学文化知识, 提高英语水平，也有利于我们更好地欣赏美剧中的幽默。
