Abstract:

The Olympic Games is not only a great world sports event, but also a big stage bearing all kinds of cultural presentation and blending. Olympic culture plays an important role in promoting human civilization and cultural exchange. Due to the respective cultural background and tradition, people’s understanding and expression to the Olympic events are not the same. Moreover, the cultural meaning of Olympic elements can produce striking differences between Chinese and Western culture.
The aim of this paper is to explore and study the cultural differences reflected in several Olympic Games so as to improve cultural understanding and exchange.

奥林匹克运动会不仅仅是一次世界性的体育盛会，他同时也是承载全世界各种文化展示与交融的大舞台。奥林匹克文化在促进人类文明和文化交流方面有着举足轻重的地位。由于各自的文化背景和传统，人们对于奥运会的理解和感觉也各不相同。不同奥运元素的文化内涵甚至能导致中西方文化的巨大差异。
本论文的研究目的在于探讨和研究奥运会所体现出来的中西方文化差异，以便促进文化传播和文化交流。

1    Introduction
The Olympic Games is established as the largest sporting event at present. Moreover, the Olympic activity can be regarded as a mechanism for developing culture, during that time great cultural differences are generated. Since Barcelona introduces the notion of Cultural Olympic, the Games must be treated as a cultural event, which can have a great impact on the world as the sports from the cultural point of view to look over the history of development between Chinese and western Olympic movement. Traditionally speaking, Olympic culture is a typical kind of western culture. It is the Beijing Olympic Games that has changed the fact. The value of Beijing Olympic culture is embodied in the traditional Chinese philosophy and culture, which displays the harmony and difference between the west and the east in the world.
