Abstract

Linguistic Sexism has become a hot topic among linguists. This subject started at the famous “Sapir-Whorf hypothesis ", which is the important theory foundation of linguistic sexism in linguistics field. With the rapid development of the human society, women’s status has been improved a lot. Because of the existence of sexism, development and status of women in the world has always been debatable. In English as well as in Chinese language, there is a lot of evidence of linguistic sexism. Although many experts and scholars had done a lot of analysis and researches, there is not adequate comparison analysis of sexism between Chinese and English language. This thesis is based on the “Sapir-Whorf hypothesis”, conducting a contrast analysis of sexism in Chinese and English languages. This thesis mainly addresses these issues: first, it is about the definitions of sex, gender and sexism; second, it deals with the manifestations of the linguistic sexism. Then, it analyzes the influences of sexism in language. In the end, there are some methods to avoid and eliminate the linguistic sexism. This thesis adopts exemplification, analytic approach methods, and documentary methods. An analysis on linguistic sexism will help us to understand sexism, find the ways to eliminate it and help society to improve women's social status and personal development.

摘  要

语言性别歧视已成为语言学家们的一个热门课题。这一课题始于著名的“沃尔夫假说”，这是语言学领域关于语言性别歧视的重要理论基础。由于性别歧视的存在，全世界女性的地位和发展问题都一直是饱受争议。在英语和汉语中，可以找到很多性别歧视的证据。虽然许多语言学家在语言性别歧视问题上做过大量分析研究，但对于中英语言中存在的性别歧视进行的对比分析还比较缺乏。本论文以著名的“沃尔夫假说”为理论依据，展开对中英语言中性别歧视现象的对比分析。本论文主要围绕以下几个问题：首先，性别及性别歧视的定义，认知；其次，语言性别歧视的表现；第三，语言性别歧视的重要影响；最后提出避免和消除语言性别歧视的对策。采用分析法，举例法，文献法等手法，对中英语言中的性别歧视现象进行对比分析，通过对语言性别歧视的认知以及对其具体表现的整理分析，探究其对人类社会以及女性发展的重要影响，并尝试找出有效的解决途径。这一研究将对改善女性地位，促进女性发展具有一定积极意义。
