Abstract
Inclusiveness is one of the most significant characters in American culture. In the post WWII era, under the impact of changes in domestic races and international situation, America has embraced different cultures from Europe, Latin America, Asia, and etc. Thus, speed of American cultural development heading to pluralism has accelerated. While protecting local culture, America has positively absorbed elites from diversified cultures, allowing which to permeate and coalesce with each other. Therefore, American culture has become well-known for its inclusiveness and it is inclusiveness that makes the American culture rich and colorful.
TV series Modern Family, whose plot is about three unique families from Middle Class, was firstly broadcasted by the ABC television network in 2009. This sitcom vividly depicts daily life and emotional world of the roles coming from different cultures, narrating stories under the background of cultural prosperity. Plots, including cross-racial marriage, transnational adoption and other aspects, unfold American cultural inclusiveness which is happy to accept new things from other cultures before audiences’ eyes.
In this thesis, the author elaborates American cultural inclusiveness by analyzing its reflections in the TV series. Introduction section gives an overview of the topic and its research status; chapter one introduces the TV series and the social reality reflected; chapter two mainly focuses on the analysis of American cultural inclusiveness and other characteristics; chapter three expounds the inclusiveness in the TV series by analyzing the plots and characters; conclusion summarizes the topic of thesis and author’s point of view.
The author’s purpose is to demonstrate American culture, notably its inclusiveness, to the readers, and facilitate the comprehension of cultural communication.

摘 要
包容性是美国文化的一个重要标志。二战后,随着美国族群的变化和国际形势的推动,欧洲、拉丁美洲、亚洲等多元文化元素进入美国,使其文化发展进程趋于多元化。美国在保持本土文化的同时,吸收各国文化的精华,且各种文化相互渗透、融合,让包容性成为美国文化的最大优势,构成美国文化丰富多彩的独特风貌。
《摩登家庭》于2009年在美国广播公司首播。剧集的故事围绕三个颇具特点的美国中产阶级家庭展开。这部情景喜剧以独特的视角,描写在文化繁荣的社会背景下所发生的家庭故事,生动描绘来自不同文化背景的人物的日常生活和情感世界。故事中,跨种族婚姻、跨国领养等情节的设置,展现出美国文化宽容兼纳的包容性。
