Abstract

The Great Depression is a special historical period in the history of the United States when the American people have suffered from financial difficulties and emotional turmoil. Different people, when facing hard times, chose different attitudes towards life and their attitudes show us the conflicts of humanity. Green Mile chooses times of turbulence and confusion as background, only to hold back where the miracle-John Coffey comes from.
 Green Mile is an American drama movie directed by Frank Darabont, which is adapted from the novel of the same, written by Stephen King in 1996. The film is told in a flash back forma, basing on the later life and career of Paul, a prisoner guard. He is an honest and upright prisoner guard in Cold Mountain, who is reminded of a special prisoner-John Coffey while seeing the film Top Hat. The story of four prisoners and their five guards was depicted in the movie Green Mile, and their conflicts of humanity expresses different people’s different attitudes towards life. With such striking contrast in humanity, the story deserves our study.

美国大萧条是美国历史上的一个特殊的时期。这个时期里，美国人民经受了经济上的困难及情感上的创伤。面对这样的特殊困难时期，不同的人有着不同的人生观，而他们不同的人生观直接导致了他们在人性上的冲突。电影《绿里奇迹》选择这样一个混乱的时代作为故事背景，成功的规避了神奇的约翰考夫利来自于哪里的问题。
《绿里奇迹》是一部由弗兰克•德拉邦特导演的，改自斯蒂芬金1996年同名小说的剧情片。这部电影用倒叙的方式描述了狱警保罗的晚年生活及其狱警生涯。保罗是一名正直诚实的冷山监狱狱警，在影片的开头，他因为影片《礼帽》回忆起了一位特别的囚犯-约翰考夫利。四位犯人与五位狱警之间的故事由此展开，为大家呈现了不同人物所具有的不同人生态度。本故事在人性上的鲜明对比值得我们深入研究。
