Abstract

The main topic of this research is the history of immigration in the United States and its influence on American culture and society. The main reason for the author’s choosing of this topic is that immigration phenomenon attracts more and more people's attention today. This paper begins with an Indian movie, My name is Khan, the highest-grossing Bollywood film overseas in 2010. After seeing this movie, we will have a strong feeling that racial discrimination, which originated from American immigration, has a great influence on Rizwan Khan. This paper which is composed of three parts analyzes Khan's fate to present American immigration history and illustrate the influence of immigration to readers. It first briefly introduces the movie My Name is Khan. Then, it concludes the four periods in American immigration history and the distinct national groups, races and ethnicities that each period brought to the U.S. Finally, the paper analyzes the influence of immigration. America is a nation founded by immigrants from Europe, Africa and other parts of the world. These groups of immigrants affect US culture and the economy in various ways. In conclusion，the influence of immigration on culture, society and environment is vast , which makes America become the melting pot of culture.

摘  要

本论文主要对美国移民历史及其对美文化和社会产生的影响进行分析。笔者选择此论题的主要原因是如今移民现象吸引了越来越多的人的关注。本论文以2010年海外最卖座的宝莱坞电影——印度电影《我的名字叫可汗》为出发点，开始对美移民文化进行研究。看完这部电影，我们都会有一种很深刻的感想：主人公可汗的人生遭遇深刻地受到了美国的种族歧视的影响，而这一点来源于美国的移民历史。本论文分为三部分来对电影主人公可汗的命运进行分析，进而向读者展示美国移民历史和其对美国的影响。首先，笔者先对电影《我的名字叫可汗》进行简要介绍;然后，笔者总结了美国移民史的四个主要时期以及该时期移民美国主要的移民团体、种族。第三部分，论文分析了美国移民对其社会的影响。美国是一个由欧洲、非洲及世界其他地区的移民构成的移民国家。美国文化、经济等多方面深受这些移民团体的影响。总的来说，移民对美国文化、社会和环境产生了巨大影响，它使美国成为了文化熔炉。
