Abstract

Competition and cooperation are very significant in Americans’ values. In their real life, they desire for competition with each other in varied fields, and competition has become a part of Americans’ life. At the same time, they also cooperate with each other. Cooperation emphasizes teamwork which can result in a win-win situation.
American movie The Hunger Games vividly depicts Americans’ sense of competition and cooperation. In this film, a new country built in North America and it holds a yearly game called “hunger games”. Every district has two competitors to participant in the game and they must kill each other to survive. Americans’ ways to compete and to cooperate are incisively embodied in this game.
In this paper, the author elaborates the Americans’ sense of competition and cooperation reflected in the movie The Hunger Games. The first part gives a brief introduction to The Hunger Games. The second part mainly analyzes the Americans’ sense of competition and cooperation, covering the definition of competition and cooperation, and the relationship between them. The last part explores the embodiment of Americans’ sense of competition and cooperation in The Hunger Games, with the focus on the main plots including competition and cooperation in tributes’ debut, training process and the arena. Finally, the paper arrives at the conclusion that the Americans' brilliant achievements made so far can be largely attributed to their strong sense of competition and cooperation and their tact of striking good balance between them.

摘  要

竞争与合作在美国人的价值观中具有重大意义。在美国人的现实生活中，他们渴望在各个方面相互竞争，并且竞争已经成了他们生活的一部分。同时，他们会相互合作。而合作强调的是团队协作，这样可以达到双赢的局面。
电影《饥饿游戏》生动地展现了美国人的竞争与合作意识。这部电影讲诉了北美洲的一个新建立的国家每年都会举行一个名为“饥饿游戏”的赛事。每个地区都有两名参赛者参加比赛，并且他们会互相残杀来自保。美国人对竞争与合作意识的运用在这个游戏中得到详尽的体现。
作者希望通过《饥饿游戏》这部电影来分析美国人的竞争与合作意识。第一部分是对《饥饿游戏》进行简介；第二部分对美国人的竞争与合作意识进行分析，从竞争与合作意识的定义着手，来分析二者之间的关系；最后一部分则通过结合电影的主要情节，包括参赛者们在初次登场时，在训练过程中和在竞技场中的竞争与合作，来探究美国人的竞争与合作意识在《饥饿游戏》中的体现。最后，论文得出结论：美国到目前为止所取得的辉煌成就主要归功于美国人强烈的竞争与合作意识以及对二者关系的精妙平衡。
