Abstract

Desperate Housewives, a TV series broadcasted by ABC from 2004 to 2012，had been getting very high audience ratings. Describing the family life of four middle class American housewives, the TV series vividly shows the family conditions of the modern USA and discusses a series of subjects of marriage, education, religion and ethics. Among the four heroines, Bree Van De Kamp leaves the audience the deepest impression with her obsessive-compulsive pursuit for absolute perfection. Drawing on the personality structure and unconsciousness theory within the framework of Freudian Psychoanalysis, this thesis interprets the formation of Bree’s image by exploring her spiritual world, unique behavior and the reasons for her distinctive personality, so as to reveal the inescapability of her predicament. With the analysis of personality, social and religious causes of Bree’s personality, it comes to the conclusion that the conflict between id and superego will result in distortion of personality and an ill-fated life.
  This thesis is composed of four parts. The first chapter introduces the TV series of Desperate Housewives and the character of Bree. The second chapter gives a brief introduction to Freudian Psychoanalysis. The third part applies the personality structure and the unconsciousness theory of Freudian Psychoanalysis to the analysis of Bree’s neurotic personality—the obsession for absolute perfection in every field, and its embodiment in her behaviors. The fourth chapter explores the formation of Bree’ s personality from three aspects—her life experience, family education and the social background, and obtains the enlightenment that it is essential for us to maintain the balance of id and superego to keep the peace of mind.

摘  要

《绝望的主妇》是一部全球收视率极高的电视剧，该剧由美国广播公司于2004年到2012年播出。剧中描绘了四位美国中产阶级女性的家庭生活，生动展现了美国当代家庭的现状，探讨了包括婚姻，教育，宗教和伦理等方面的问题。剧中四位女主角之一的布里，更是以其带有强迫症的、追求极度完美的偏执性格给观众留下了深刻印象。目前，国内对该剧的研究主要集中在人物对话分析和剧本翻译方面，没有对人物塑造和创作手法的探讨。而本文则主要依据弗洛伊德的精神分析法中的潜意识与人格结构理论，从布里的精神状态、独特的言行、性格成因三个方面，分析该人物形象的塑造，揭示该人物所面对的必然困境，通过剖析人物命运的个人、社会、宗教成因，本文得出人性中本我和超我的冲突终将造成人格扭曲和多桀的命运。
本文共由四个部分组成：第一部分介绍了电视剧《绝望的主妇》和布里这一人物形象；第二部分简要介绍弗洛伊德精神分析理论；第三部分运用弗洛伊德精神分析法中的人格结构和潜意识理论，分析了布里的神经质人格，即完美主义强迫症，及其在言行上的表现；第四部分结合个人成长经历、家庭教育、社会背景等三个方面，分析布里性格的成因。最终得出，平衡本我与超我的关系对于保持内心状态的稳定具有至关重要意义的启示。
