Abstract

Flower, as the product of culture, has rich cultural connotations. There are a lot of related research and analysis about flowers and its culture both at home and abroad. According to statistics, in recent years the published monographs about peony amount to more than 40 pieces and all kinds of papers published amount to more than 90 (not including a collection of fine arts, photography, peony cultivation of research results and literature). In contrast, studies and research areas on rose mostly focus on science and technology, tourism industry, breeding, etc. The national flower can reflect some cultural implications. In order to understand the differences between Chinese culture and English culture, the writer think that people can analyze literary images, national characters and religious beliefs reflected in Chinese peony and English rose.
This paper consists of three parts. It firstly introduces the history and features of Chinese peony and English rose, followed by the discussion about the cultural connotations behind the peony and the rose. Then, it analyzes the reasons of cultural differences reflected in Chinese peony and English rose. The purpose of this paper is to help people understand the cultural differences between China and England through analyzing the cultural implications in Chinese peony and English rose.

摘  要

花作为一种文化产物，其蕴含的内容是非常丰富的。国内外学者对花及花文化都有相关的研究与分析。据不完全统计，近年来出版各种牡丹文化专著达40余种，发表各类论文90余篇（不包括美术、摄影作品集、牡丹种植培育方面的研究成果及文学作品）。全国还先后成立了一系列专门的研究机构，并建立了许多相关网站。反观对于玫瑰研究，研究的领域大多都集中在科技，旅游产业，培育等方面。国花可以反映一个国家的一些文化内涵。为了了解中英文化差异，笔者认为可以分析中国牡丹和英国玫瑰反映出的文学形象、国民性和宗教意识。
本文分为三部分。文章在第一部分介绍中国牡丹和英国玫瑰的历史及特征。紧接着作者介绍中国牡丹与英国玫瑰反映的文化内涵。第三部分综合讲述中国牡丹和英国玫瑰反映的文化差异原因。本文的目的是通过分析中国牡丹和英国玫瑰的文化内涵来帮助人们明白中英两国的文化差异。
