Abstract

Movie Se7en draws its materials from the seven deadly sins of Christianity; they are Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Wrath, Greed, and Sloth. The movie tells us a story about a crazy religious believer, John Doe, who kills people in the name of warning common people against committing the seven deadly sins. Movie Se7en is known as the most successful as well as the most representative psychological thriller in the film history, and it is also reckoned to be an excellent movie which depicts the links between American culture and religious complex. Religious complex has a great influence on the development of American politics, economy, culture, education as well as some other fields.
This thesis is based on the study of American culture, religion, as well as the movie Se7en. In this paper, the author studies religious complex in American culture by elaborate analysis of main characters in movie Se7en. This paper is divided into four parts. The first chapter introduces the movie Se7en and its religious background; the second chapter introduces the religious complex in American culture; chapter three focus on the analysis of connections of main characters and their religious complex; the last chapter expresses the author’s personal opinions on religious complex’s importance and significance in American culture.

摘  要

《七宗罪》取材于人们所熟知的基督教教义中的七宗罪，即饕餮，贪婪，懒惰，淫欲，傲慢，嫉妒和愤怒。电影描写了一个名为约翰•杜的狂热宗教信仰者为了警醒世人远离七宗罪而犯下一系列杀人的罪行。自电影上映以来，它被公认为是电影界史上最成功，最具代表性的心理惊悚片之一，也是各界公认的宗教文化在美国文化中的体现，向世人展示宗教情结与美国文化联系。宗教情结是影响美国政治、经济、文化、教育等领域的重要原因之一。
本论文建立在对美国文化，基督教以及电影《七宗罪》研究的基础之上。笔者希望通过对电影的分析体现美国文化中的宗教情结。本文共分为四部分。第一章介绍电影《七宗罪》及其宗教背景；第二章介绍美国文化中的宗教情结：第三章分析电影主要人物及他们各自宗教情结的体现；第四章主要表达笔者对美国文化中宗教情结的作用的个人观点。
