Abstract

Greeting is a universal language phenomenon in human communication. As a communicative tool of society, greeting is a way for people to communicate awareness of other’s presence, to show attention to, and to suggest a type of relationship or social status between individuals or groups of people coming in contact with each other.
Most former researchers of greetings are about the similarities and differences of greetings in English and Chinese, while this paper focuses on the pragmatic analysis of greetings, in order to have a clear vision on pragmatic functions and meanings under various situations. And the paper aims at providing ways for people to communicate successfully through the pragmatic analysis of greetings in English and Chinese, which could contribute much to avoid potential failure and embarrassment in cross-cultural interaction. 
This thesis mainly introduces the differences and similarities as well as pragmatic functions from pragmatic perspective. Part one introduces the fundamental information of pragmatics, including definition and principles of pragmatic. Part two reviews the similarities and differences of greetings in English and Chinese. And the final part focuses on the pragmatic functions of greetings, including function of illocutionary acts and linguistic routines of politeness.

摘  要

问候语是人类交际中普遍使用的语言现象。它作为社会中的一种交际工具，是人与人之间表达相互知晓，相互关心，或是表示某种社会关系的方式。
前人的研究多专注于对英汉问候语的简单对比，而本论文则通过对英汉问候语的语用差异的简析，得出英汉问候语在不同语用角度下的功能和作用。本论文旨在通过对英汉问候语的语用分析来指导人们顺利地交流，以此来避免跨文化交际中存在的尴尬和失误。
本论文从语用学的角度分析英汉问候语的差异及功能。论文第一章梳理了语用学的基本知识，即语用学的定义和原则；接着本文在第二部分举例论证了英汉问候语所存在的异同点；最后文章重点阐述了英汉问候语的语用功能，包括表情言语功能和礼貌策略功能。
