Abstract
 
From the perspective of the theoretical framework of Appraisal Theory, this paper analyzes a series of news stories on the violence incidents in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region published by the Cable News Network (CNN) in 2013.
Firstly, the thesis looks back to the previous researches done by scholars both at home and abroad. Meanwhile, some applications of the Appraisal System in analyzing news discourse are collected, proving the Attitude System in Appraisal Theory offers efficient standard for understanding news reports. By analyzing the Judgment, Affect, and Appreciation resources in CNN’s Xinjiang reports, the paper discloses the subjectivity and political bias hidden in these news stories.
In the last part of the research, the paper concludes its findings: The series of CNN reports are laden with particular ideologies of the United States by using attitudinal resources, and thus set up a negative image of Chinese government, which, to some extent, has brought some bad effects for Chinese government.

摘要

本文以美国有线电视新闻网（Cable News Net，以下简称CNN）2013年的新疆事件报道为分析样本，在评价理论体系框架下对语料进行分析。
首先，笔者回顾了中外学者对系统功能语言学中评价理论体系的相关研究，同时，文章借鉴了该理论体系在分析其他新闻语料中的实际应用，证明其实用性和有效性。然后笔者运用该体系态度模块中的情感、判断、鉴赏资源来分析了CNN对于新疆事件的报道，探讨报道中的隐含态度，探究此系列报道带有的主观性和政治偏向性。
通过研究，本文总结如下：美国有限电视新闻网在新疆事件的报道中，报道者大量使用带有主观态度的词句，来描写中国政府和新疆事件，对中国政府在世界上的形象造成了一定负面影响，这些偏见在一定程度上影响了世界对中国的印象及态度。
