摘要：

在英国，标准语（RP）能超越地域障碍，被人们广泛的接受。二战以后至今的几十年间，使用标准语的人数大量增加。而同时RP在广播，电视，电影，BBC对外播音等大众媒体上的使用，对推动RP在英国乃至全世界的广泛传播产生了深远影响。英国广播公司的新闻，和国王或女王的演讲，以及大部分以RP音标体系为基础的英语课本， 都体现了标准语无与伦比的地位及重要性。然而时至今日英国的标准语却开始衰落，大不如前，甚至失去了其在大众媒体上的中心地位。所以本文将从标准语的发展史，标准语定义，使用领域，范围，影响，及变化等角度出发，讨论英国标准语在英国大众媒体上的使用。

Abstract:

In Britain, RP can surmount the regional obstacle and universally accepted by people. A RP speaker can be easily understood by others. After the World War II to the past several decades, the number of the people who use RP increases considerably because they tend to consider RP a symbol of identity and status. At the same time, the use of RP in mass media, such as broadcasting, TV show, movie, and magazine and so on have a great effect on propelling its transmission in Britain even the whole world. RP used in British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) news, King’s or Queen’s speeches, and most English textbooks which are based on RP’s phonetic system shows its unrivalled status and significance. However, up to time now, British RP starts to fade, even lost its central place in mass media. On the contrary, dialects and other pronunciations come into a fashion. Hence, the thesis will depend on the perspectives like RP’s phylogeny, pronunciation, characteristics, field of use, influence and changes .etc. to discuss the use of RP in mass media.

1. Introduction
1.1 The introduction of RP
As we all know, Putonghua (also be called mandarin) in modern Chinese is the standard language which is basically lied on the northern dialect. And Beijing accent is seen as its standard pronunciation. Britain, where English is used as its mother-tongue, also has pronunciation system being similar with Chinese Putonghua (mandarin) namely British Received Pronunciation (RP). The following “RP” is the acronym of Received Pronunciation. Britain has many dialects and accents, and sometimes, there are difficulties in communication for their native speakers because they cannot understand each other. In Britain, RP can break the regional differences and overstep the boundaries, being widely accepted and understood by people  domestic and overseas.
