摘要:
本文主要研究卡克斯顿及其印刷业对英语传播的贡献。集中通过介绍威廉•卡克斯顿的身份地位,他的印刷业、作品及其特征来展示他对英语传播的贡献。卡克斯顿是一位成功的商人,是英国第一位真正的印刷商,一生出版100多部书,被称为“王家印刷商”,他也是重要的英语翻译家,亲自翻译成英语并出版的作品有二十多部,是在莎士比亚之前对英语影响最大的人。他是英国第一位引进印刷术的人,对英语传播做出重大贡献,有“英国印刷业之父”的尊称。作者借此达到让英语学习者对卡克斯顿本人及其印刷业对英语传播所做的重大贡献,从而对英语发展历史有更深刻的认识。

Abstract:
This paper mainly studies on contribution of William Caxton and his printing career to the spread of English through intensively introduction of Caxton’s status and identity, of his printing career, and of his works and characteristics, showing people his contribution to English. William Caxton was a successful merchant and the first real printer, publishing more than 100 books. He was called the royal printer of England and also a prominent English translator with over 20 works that were translated and published in English by himself. He had the greatest influence on the formalization of English before Shakespeare and was the first one who introduced printing industry to England, which played an important role in the spread of English. Therefore, he was respected as the father of printing in England. The author aims to show English learners that Caxton together with his printing career indeed make a great contribution to the spread of English language, and to have a deeper understanding of English development history.

1. Introduction
William Caxton was the first English man who introduced printing to England and had a profound influence on the spread of English. He was an important English translator and printer , publishing over 120 works and played an important role in the development of the spoken and written English .His printing career had a prominent influence on the spread of English as well as the forming of standard English .Therefore it is extremely meaningful and valuable to study Caxton and his contributions . This paper will carry out a detailed study on Caxton’s printing industry and his contribution.
