Abstract
Isak Dinesen, the pseudonym of Karen Blixen, is a distinguished female writer in Denmark during the twentieth century. Out of Africa, an autobiographical novel, is regarded as the best known of her works in which the author depicts in graceful words “my” life story of running a coffee plantation in Africa from 1914 to 1931. In this novel, Dinesen fondly recalls the unique natural landscape, vivacious animals and the courageous people of Africa. She not only describes in sympathetic words the Natives’ ignorance and backwardness, but also sings praise of their industry, honesty and helpfulness. The author’s sincere love to Africa and its people can be tracked between the lines, so the novel is undoubtedly a paean of Africa. This paper is intended to interpret this theme from three main perspectives: the land of Africa, Africans and local culture.
