Abstract

Ang Lee is the only ethnic Chinese director who got the Academy Award twice. His films are both in Chinese and western subjects and have the international qualities. An important reason for his films being accepted by world audience is that he blended Chinese culture and western culture in those films. This paper just focused on the cultures in Ang Lee’s films, especially the fusion of Chinese and western cultures reflected in the films. In the first part of this paper, the author introduced Ang Lee as a great film director and his life experiences which had much to do with his films. In the second part, the author analyzed Chinese and western cultural fusion from three aspects: Chinese cultural elements, western cultural elements and cultural fusion. When analyzing Chinese cultural elements, the author chose four aspects: Chinese culture of “He”—harmony between man and nature, Chinese filial piety culture, Chinese martial art and Chinese cultural spectacles. When analyzing western cultural elements, the author just chose two aspects: Hollywoodish typical narrative framework and west cultural tradition. When analyzing cultural fusion, the author chose three aspects: the fusion of language, the fusion reflected on personalities and behaviors of characters and the fusion reflected on some mutual themes such as family and emotion, and took examples from the “Trilogy of Family” Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon. Finally, the author concluded that Chinese films needed to absorb other cultures in order to enter into the international market.

摘要

李安是唯一一位两次获得奥斯卡奖的华人导演。他的电影题材横跨中西，具有国际品质。李安电影能得到中西方观众的共同接受的一个重要理由就是他吧中西文化完美地融合在他的电影中。本文重点关注李安电影中的文化，尤其是中西文化的融合。论文第一部分介绍了李安作为一位伟大的电影导演，电影特色，他的一些生活经历，以及这些经历对形成李安电影特色的影响。论文第二部分重点从三个方面分析李安电影的中西文化融合现象：中国文化因素，西方文化因素以及中西文化融合。在分析中国文化因素时，笔者从中国“和”文化，中国孝文化，中国武术文化和中国文化奇观等四方面进行了分析。在分析西方文化因素的时候，笔者从经典好莱坞的叙事框架和西方文化的传统内化两方面进行分析。在分析中西文化融合时，笔者从以下三方面进行了重点分析并从“家庭三部曲”和卧虎藏龙等影片中选取例子进行佐证：语言上的融合，人物个性和行为上的融合以及人类共同的主题如家庭和情感上的融合。最后，笔者从中得到启发：中国电影想要走向国际市场就要吸收其他文化，做到文化融合来世界上不同文化种族的需要。
