Abstract:
 
Culture is a synthesis including multi-level and various contents. Through the comparative study of different cultures, it can help to comprehensively  understand one country’s social structure, values and customs. It is hard to avoid conflicts in the cross-cultural communication as people with different cultural backgrounds have different thinking modes and values. This paper studies the cultural   differences between China and America based on the movie The Joy Luck Club. It mainly discusses the differences in following aspects: views of love and marriage, senses of value, ways of language communication and views on family concepts. Then it explores the causes of cultural differences based on the movie. Finally,some solutions to cultural conflicts are put forward in the last part. After studying the topic, we realize that we should establish our right attitude toward different cultures. Only in this way can people with different cultural backgrounds achieve mutual understanding and establish harmonious relationship, and communicate smoothly in cross-cultural communication.

摘要：

文化是一个包含多层次，多方面内容的综合体。通过对不同文化的比较研究，有助于全面了解一个国家的社会结构，价值观念和风俗习惯的等方方面面。生活在不同文化背景下的人们, 由于不同的思维方式和价值观念, 在交往过程中难免会产生矛盾。本文以电影《喜福会》为参照，探讨中美文化诸方面差异，文章主要就中西方爱情观、婚姻观、价值观、语言表达和家庭观等方面进行了分析，在此基础上，探究产生这些差异的原因。文章最后提出了解决文化冲突的一些建议。通过对影片《喜福会》中所描述的两代人间的文化冲突这一主题的剖析，对不同的文化，我们应该树立正确的态度，理解和尊重他国文化。只有这样，不同背景的人们才能顺畅沟通，相互理解，并建立起和谐的人际关系。

Introduction
Chinese American women writer Amy Tan was famous for her novel The Joy Luck Club in American literature, and she has become a leading writer after Kingston in Chinese American literature. Published in 1989, this critical acclaimed novel  focuses on the lives of Chinese-American daughters and their Chinese-born mothers. In this novel, conflicts between daughters and mothers arise frequently. The immigrant mothers were all born in China, they grew up in the traditional Chinese culture and were influenced by the doctrine of Confucius and authority. Through they have moved to America, they continued to cling to the traditional culture of their motherland. On the contrary, the daughters born and brought up in America were deeply influenced by western culture, they live in the environment in which people advocate the ideas of equal rights, democracy and liberty, they accustomed to the values, customs and lifestyle of America. The cultural differences between China and America are the causes of the conflicts between daughters and mothers.
