Abstract:

With the deepening of globalization of the world economy, international business intercourse has become more and more frequent. And the English language has become an indispensable tool in international communication and cooperation, Therefore, English expressions, especially those abbreviated English terms with the features of being concise and economical, appears in people’s daily life more frequently. The development of the society has made it a trend to use English abbreviations in international communication. So it is of great importance to learn business English abbreviations. This paper is written on the basis of the research findings of previous scholars. It starts with the introduction of the definition and development of business English abbreviations and continues with the discussion of the five common composition methods of business English abbreviations. Meanwhile, it also elaborates the application of business English abbreviations in business English contexts such as international business procedures, business correspondences, advertisements and international organization names. In addition, this paper makes an analysis of the four main functions of business English abbreviations: the economical function, the euphemistic function, the emotional function and the humorous function, so as to help international traders to use them with high proficiency, to promote business activities and facilitate communication and development of international trade.

摘要：

随着经济全球化的深入，国际贸易日趋频繁。英语成为国际交流与合作中不可或缺的工具。于是，英语的“身影”越来越多地出现在人们的日常生活中，特别是具有简洁、经济等特点的英语缩略词。社会的进步和发展使得英语缩略语在国际交流中的使用成为一种趋势，并且在国际贸易活动中发挥着越来越大的作用。因此，学习缩略语有着重要的意义。本文通过总结前人对英语缩略语的研究以及自己的探索，首先介绍了商务英语缩略语的定义和发展，并讨论其5种主要构成方式：首字母缩略词、首字母拼音词、截短词、缩合词和谐音缩略词。其次，阐述了缩略语在国际贸易、商务交流、商业广告和国际组织等四种商务情境中的应用。接着，探讨了缩略语的四种主要功能：经济功能、委婉功能、情感功能和幽默功能，希望可以帮助人们更加得心应手地使用商务英语缩略语，从而推动商务活动的运行，促进国际贸易交流的发展。
