Abstract:

Humor is a way of communication which is witty and funny, intending to make two communicative sides feel pleasant. It plays a significant role in our daily life. It makes us happy and relieve our anxiety and stress. However, when people understand humor, due to different cultural backgrounds, there are different expressions of humor. In recent years, there are plenty of monographs on the study of Chinese and Western humor, which provided a lot of professional guidance and reference. The topic is based on two teleplays which called The Big Bang Theory and Love Apartment, studying the difference of humor expressions. It can provide comedy lovers with reference, in order to avoid misunderstanding in the future life.

摘要：

“幽默”是一种诙谐的，滑稽的，意在带给交际双方愉悦的交际方式。它在人们的生活中一直占着举足轻重的地位。它能带给人们欢乐，减轻忧虑和压力。然而在理解幽默的时候，由于不同文化背景的幽默内涵相差甚远，所以幽默的表达方式也不相同。近年来，有关研究中西幽默的专著层出不穷，这也为后来者提供了许多专业性指导和借鉴。本课题基于《生活大爆炸》和《爱情公寓》两部电视剧的基础上，比较研究中西幽默表达方式的异同。从而为喜剧爱好者提供借鉴，以便于他们在今后的生活中避免一些误解。

Introduction
 Due to the Reform and Opening-up policy, China has communicated with other countries gradually. Humor is one of expression ways for us to communicate with others. Humor plays a significant role in our daily life. It can make us feel happy and relive anxiety and stress. It is also helpful for our communication. However, humor will also lead to many misunderstandings with other countries due to cultural differences. So it is urgent to find out the differences and search some ways to avoid these misunderstanding.
During these years, there are lots of psychologists, linguists and anthropologists at home and abroad who make some significant contributions to humor studies such as Herbert M Lefcourt, Ling Yutang, Gong Weicai and so on.
Based on these previous researches, there are few researches about cross-cultural theories of humor. It is interesting and important to find out the differences of humor between China and western countries. The thesis aims to find out the differences in order to better understand humor and avoid misunderstandings.
1. Definitions of humor
Humor is alien word and it is a transliterated word. However in English, this word originates from Latin. Its original meaning is body fluid. Lin Yutang is the first person who spread this word in China. He expressed humor to the point. And the meaning of humor is accepted gradually by common Chinese. Now, the majority of people think humor represents interesting and ridiculous things. But in fact,humor has distinction and division. There are two definitions of humor
