摘要

在当今的西方社会里， 委婉词语的运用涉及到生活的各个方面，如政治、经济、文化、宗教等。由于委婉语具有模糊色彩，有相当大的隐蔽性，于是成了政客的工具，这使得委婉语层出不穷。本文从使用语境和特点，构成手段，交际特征等三个方面讨论了政治活动中英语委婉语的使用情况，指出在政治场合中，委婉语的使用涉及到语言交流技巧，有时是与粉饰和欺骗联系在一起的。

Abstract

In today’s western society, the use of euphemism words involves in all aspects of life, such as Politics, economy, culture, religion and so on. Euphemism has become a tool of politicians because of its mistiness and concealment. And this makes euphemism emerge in an endless stream. This paper will discuss the usage of English euphemism in politics in three aspects¬¬¬---context and feature of English euphemism in politics, composition methods, communicative principle; and point out that the usage of euphemism in political events is related to language skill of communication, and sometimes is linked with whitewash and deceit.
