摘要

    模糊语言广泛存在于人们的言语交际之中。模糊语以其极大的魅力吸引着人们，丰富了人们的言语交际。新闻报道作为语言的一种表达形式，具有及时性、准确性和简明性的特点。但是新闻报道中却存在着大量的模糊语言。作者在大量阅读英语新闻后，通过分析有代表性的具体语料，基于维索尔伦的顺应论理论，对英语新闻中的模糊语进行了探讨，从而归纳总结了英语新闻语篇中模糊语的语用功能。结果表明，英语新闻报道中的模糊语在满足读者阅读心理、增加新闻报道可信度、防止绝对化以及避免承担责任等方面具有重要的意义。

Abstract

Vague language is widely consists in every aspect of language use. With its great charm,vague language greatly enriches human’s verbal communication.News reports,as a kind of expression, have the characteristics of the timeliness, accuracy and conciseness. But news reports contain a lot of vague language. After reading a lot of English news, the author has probed into the use of vague language in journalism from the perspective of Verschueren 's Adaptation Theory on the basis of analysis of the representative news items, thus summarized the pragmatic functions of vague language in English journalism.The study shows that vague language employed in English journalism plays a vital role in satisfying the reading psychology of readers, increasing the credibility of economic news reporting, preventing speaking in an absolute way and protecting from taking responsibility in English journalism.
