摘要

在我们的日常生活对话中，很显然，称赞语被广泛地使用着。称赞语被视为社会的润滑剂，它推动着人们的对话交流朝着和谐的方向发展。作为一种社会语言，它不仅可以缩短人们之间的距离，而且还可以保持社会正常关系。称赞语及其应答语是一种最常见的对话模式，它有一定的规律性。由于中西方文化差异的限制，这种对话模式在表达上也存在差异，它反映出中西方文化的特点。本文侧重于比较和分析中西方称赞语及其应答语的差异，对于在不同的文化背景下，如何恰当运用和接受称赞语做出了更好的解释。为了与西方人更好地交流并且减少不必要的误会和尴尬，我们一定要充分理解中西方称赞语及其应答语的差异，同时可以掌握到一些在跨文化交际中实用的对话技巧。

Abstract

In our daily communication, it is quite evident that compliments are widely used in social life. Compliments are regarded as a social lubricant which makes the communication more smooth and harmonious. As a social language, it can not only shorten the distance between communicators, but also maintain social normal relationships. Compliments and responses to compliments are a common conversation pattern which presents certain regularity. Owning to the constraint of different English and Chinese cultural context, they also show differences in the way of expression which reflect characteristics of English and Chinese culture. The thesis concentrates on comparing and analyzing the difference between English and Chinese compliments and responses. The study aims at providing a good understanding of how to perform and accept compliments appropriately in different cultural backgrounds. In order to help better communicate with foreigners and reduce unnecessary misunderstanding and embarrassment, we must understand the differences of English and Chinese compliments and responses as well as to learn some useful communicative skills in cross-cultural communication.
