摘要

不论在英语或是汉语中，委婉语都是人们在交际过程中非常普遍使用的语言表达形式，它是调节人际关系的有效润滑剂，是保全交际双方面子的重要手段。礼貌原则是语用学的重要原则，其作用是使交际双方的语言表达方式显得更加礼貌，使交际得以顺利进行。本文首先将英语委婉语与礼貌原则进行系统介绍，然后从语用学的角度着手，通过大量实例，分析在礼貌原则的基础上英语委婉语是如何与礼貌原则的各条准则相对应。本文关于委婉语的相关研究结果希望可以对人们交际活动的顺利进行具有一定的启示和指导作用。

Abstract

No matter in English or Chinese, euphemism is a very common linguistic phenomenon in the process of human communication, which is an effective lubricant for keeping a harmonious interpersonal relation, and an important way of saving  face of communicators. Leech’s Politeness Principle is an important principle in pragmatics, which enables the way of communication that appears more polite, so as to promote communication smoothly. This paper first introduces English euphemism and politeness principle briefly; and then from the angle of pragmatics, tries to analyze how English euphemism is applied based on the different principles of Politeness Principles with a marvelous number of examples. In this paper, it is hoped through the related research of euphemism to have an enlightenment and instruction function for the smooth operation of people's communication activities.
