摘  要

模糊语是人类语言中的一种普遍的语言现象，也是语言选择和顺应的结果。模糊语具有精确语言所不具备的特殊语义功能。在外贸函电的写作中，模糊语的运用至关重要。模糊语在外贸函电中的运用要求使用者在遵守模糊语的合作原则和礼貌原则的基础上，也要考虑到外贸函电的写作特征，符合七个基本原则。根据前人的研究，本文将继续从模糊语的概念、分类、语用功能等方面探究模糊语在外贸函电中的运用，通过实例分析，探究模糊语在外贸函电中的具体语用功能，作者将其归纳为：灵活性，礼貌性和自我保护作用。最后作者将以总结帮助使用者更好地在外贸函电中自如地运用模糊语。

Abstract

Vague language is a common linguistic phenomenon in human language, as well as the result of linguistic choice and linguistic adaptation. Vague language has special pragmatic functions that precise language doesn’t have. In English business correspondence writing, the application of vagueness also plays a vital role. The application of vague language requires that users  take the features of English business correspondence writing and principles of 7C into consideration, on the basis of keeping the cooperation principle and politeness principle of vague language. According to previous researches, the paper studies the application of vague language in English business correspondence from the aspects of its concept, classification and pragmatic functions. By analyzing practical examples and discussing the detailed pragmatic functions, the author concluded three items, including flexibility,politeness and self-protection. And in the end, the author gives a conclusion to help users use vague language more flexibly in English business correspondence.
