Abstract
The paper aims at using the theory of apology strategies to study the differences between Chinese and English daily communication by means of elaborating former researches ( including the study of speech act and apology strategy ) conducted by scholars. On the basis of the theoretical framework of the scholar Trosborg (1987), the author set some situational dialogues so as to further analyze the differences in apology strategy cross-culturally.
With the methodology of comparison and illustration, the author will further discuss the differences of apology strategy cross-culturally in daily communication. According to the theory of Trosborg’s apology strategy, this paper finally summarize the differences in eight apology strategies: 1. the difference of treating people between Chinese and English; 2. the difference of answering questions when offering help; 3. the degree of valuing their face for English and Chinese parents; 4. whether he or she may explain the reasons first when making apologies; 5. the difference of social values; 6. whether he or she will adopt the way of material compensation when offering repair; 7. the different groups in using Strategy of Promising Forbearance; 8. the difference of the degree of showing his or her concerns.

本文通过对前人在道歉语方面(包括言语行为以及使用策略方面)的研究进行阐述,以学者乔斯伯格(1987)的道歉语的使用策略作为理论框架,通过为每一种道歉语使用策略设定情景对话的方式,从而为进一步分析中英日常交际中在使用道歉策略上所存在的差异性提供事实依据。
作者通过对比论证,举例分析等方法,以乔斯伯格(1987)的八种道歉策略为依据,对在道歉语使用策略上所体现的中英跨文化的差异性进行探讨,其差异性具体体现在:中英在为人处事方面的不同;对提供帮助时的回答方式的不同;中英父母对自身面子的看重与否;道歉时是否会首先解释因由;社会价值观的不同;弥补损失时是否会首先采用物质补偿的方式;使用下保证策略时的使用群体的不同;对接受道歉一方的关心程度的不同。
