Abstract
This research is about the business communication abilities of the students of English major. It aims at finding out:
1. Whether the business communication abilities of the students majored in English can meet with the enterprises’ needs;
2. Whether the education of universities on business communication is effective or not;
3. Whether the education of universities on business communication goes with the social requirements.
Through applying questionnaires and interviews, the relative data of this research are collected.
After sorting out these data and analyze them, possible solutions to the issues that emerged will be given on both the level of the English major students’ study and the level of the education of universities.

本研究通过设置调查问卷,对英语专业学生、高校英语专业教师及领导、需求英语专业学生的用人单位进行问卷调查和进行采访,将调查数据整理成图表,以得出英语专业学生的商务沟通能力是否满足社会用人单位的需求;高校英语专业的人才培养目的(商务沟通方面)实际达成多少;高校英语专业的人才培养计划(商务沟通方面)是否能满足社会用人单位的需求。并找出产生能力不匹配的原因,提出改善此情况的措施。借此以期为高校更好地培养英语专业人才贡献力量。

1 Introduction
Business communication is an essential part in business affairs. Since economic globalization, the enterprises require their employees to be more skillful in business communication, especially in international fields. The students of English major, as a group who gain better foreign language skills and understandings of western cultures, have a tight bond to business communication affairs, particularly to intercultural communication in business. The foreign language department of Nanjing University of Science and Technology can be taken as an example. In 2008, 77% of the graduates who majored in English were employed by enterprises. This number came to 68% in 2009, and 62% in 2010. Since over 50% of the English major students tend to work in enterprises, a research on business communication abilities of English major students is of great significance.
