摘要

《呼啸山庄》是英国作家艾米莉•勃朗特的作品。小说充满着压抑的爱和仇恨。小说中的主人翁一生都被自己深刻的爱和这份爱引申出的仇恨所折磨。该小说描写的是一个关于孤儿希斯克利夫被老庄主收养之后的故事。在希斯克利夫小的时候便与凯瑟琳（老庄主的女儿）形影不离，暗生情愫。可是受到了亨德利（凯瑟琳的哥哥）的阻止。最后，凯瑟琳背叛了希斯克利夫嫁给了林顿（画眉山庄的主人）。随之而来的是希斯克利夫的报复。在我看来，贯穿小说的主线是爱和仇恨引发出的复仇。而这复仇也是个人性格（自私）和社会现象（阶级观念）的产物。此论文主要分析每个人的复仇行为和动机。

Abstract

Emily’s novel, Wuthering Heights, was published in December of 1847. The novel is filled with love and hatred. The leading character in the novel was tormented by his love and hatred which lead to his tragical life. The story is about the man who was an orphan and adopted by Mr. Earnshan. When Heathcliff was a child, he was always together with Catherine who was Mr. Eanshan’s daughter, and then they fell in love with each other. However, Catherine’s brother hated Heathcliff and made them separated. Finally, Catherine betrayed Heathcliff and married Linton who was the master of Thrushcross Grange. Followed by this, Heathcliff started to revenge. The   novel is about love, hatred and revenge which was caused by the main character’s personality defects and social conflicts. And this paper will analyze several characters’ revenge and the roots.

1    Literature Review
Emily Bronte’s only novel, Wuthering Heights, was published in December of 1847. Because of the harsh realities, few people could accept Wuthering Heights during its initial publication. As the time goes by, the fame of Wuthering Heights was gradually rising.
There are many scholars studying this classical literature. Zheng Kelu(2006) said in a book “he used the oppressive standard to revenge the people who oppressed him. The novel revealed the cold money relationship and classification concept destroyed the good human nature and made it distorted in the capitalist society of 19th century.” This opinion is the most representative academic point of view in both Chinese and Western. Hu Yuping(1998) analyzed that the inferiority, jealousy and the abnormal psychology of revenge caused the tragedy. Summarizing all of the domestic and foreign researches on Wuthering Heights, it mainly can be divided into the following aspects:
First, the subject research. Such as Britain critics Arnold Kettle(1967) analyzed the theme of the novel from the sociological angle, thinking Wuthering Heights is a story about industrial ownership, social enjoy attractive, marriage arrangement, the importance of education, religious legality, and the relationship of the rich and the poor.
